Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny little town that is a bit sleepy. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar to its significance. Many people believe that it's an island to the west of Montreal, but it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities that are Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. Then, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow every dance partner she had. She admitted in an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. As I got bigger than my male dancers, I decided to quit. The Brugel is one of the former dancers who turned into acting. The teacher she had at high school was what pushed her into the right direction. Her teacher suggested she audition to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. The student tried it out, and ended up playing the role of the main character of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Over the past 20 years, Brugel's roles on TV and the big screen have been varied. The character of Rita from the award winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel was only seen on a few moments in the very first season of The Handmaid's Tale. The only Canadian member.
